Ampang Hospital is a relatively new hospital. It was built to ease the congestion from Hospital Kuala Lumpur. Ampang Hospital is the leading hospital in Malaysia in regards to hematological (blood related) cases. Some of the difficult cases from different state hospitals and even private hospitals in the Klang Valley are referred to Ampang Hospital. Wards in Level 7 and 8 are dedicated to treatment of blood related cancer cases. The other levels are dedicated to other hospital activities. Ie: surgical procedures, delivery, etc.
Ampang Hospital's head of hematology department is Datuk Dr Chang Kien Meng. Recognised and respected within his field, Dr Chang is very knowledgeable and runs things extremely efficiently. Besides his busy schedule, he still makes it a point to be hands on and down to earth with his patients. For lack of better words, in short, Dr Chang and his team are really very very good doctors.
When it comes to cost, Ampang Hospital is like any other government hospital. Extremely affordable! It's times like this we truly thank God for relatively free health care. I would say 98% of the actual cost (procedures, tests and boarding) is subsidized by the Malaysian government for every Malaysian citizen. All medication is FREE and yes, it's as effective as the ones you will get in private hospitals.
The hematology clinic at Level 1 is open from Monday to Wednesday, 9am - 1pm.
If
you have no prior appointments made, you will have to come during
clinic hours. Admission may even be arranged immediately for serious
cases. But due to limited time and places, not everyone may be admitted on the first day, there may even be a waiting list.
